Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency facts for kids
The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA, Irish: Gníomhaireacht Thuaisceart Éireann um Staitisticí agus Taighde) is a special group that works for the government in Northern Ireland. It's part of the Department of Finance. NISRA's main job is to gather and share important facts and figures about Northern Ireland. These facts are called statistics. They cover things like how the economy is doing, how many people live there, and what society is like.
NISRA also carries out a big count of everyone in Northern Ireland every ten years. This is called a census. The most recent census happened on 21 March 2021. NISRA also includes the General Register Office (GRO). The GRO keeps official records of important life events. These include births, marriages, civil partnerships, and deaths.
What is the Statistics Advisory Committee?
In 1988, a group called the Statistics Advisory Committee was created. It was set up to give advice to the Department of Finance. This committee helps decide how to collect and share statistics from businesses. It makes sure that this information is used correctly.
