Northern Ohio is a small, unincorporated community located in Poinsett County, Arkansas, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

Northern Ohio is found along Arkansas Highway 75. It's about 2.75 miles (4.4 km) southwest of a town called Marked Tree.

A Community's Special Beginning

Northern Ohio has an interesting history. In 1936, a special type of community was started here. It was called a "resettlement community."

What Was a Resettlement Community?

During the 1930s, America faced tough times known as the Great Depression. Many families struggled to find jobs and homes. The government created programs to help. One of these was the Resettlement Administration.

This program helped families move to new places. They would get a fresh start in communities planned by the government. These communities often had new homes and farms.

Northern Ohio's Founding Story

The land for Northern Ohio's resettlement community was bought from a company called the Northern Ohio Cooperage Company. This company made wooden barrels and containers. The government used this land to build a new place for families to live and work.

This helped people find new opportunities. It also created a unique part of Arkansas's history.
