The Story of Norton
Norton was officially planned and mapped out in 1878. When a place is platted, it means someone drew up a detailed map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be.
The community was named after an important person named Elijah Hise Norton. He was a respected judge who worked for the Supreme Court of Missouri. A judge's job is to make important decisions about laws and justice. The Supreme Court is the highest court in a state, making very important legal rulings.
A post office was opened in Norton in 1879. This was a place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, until it closed down in 1954.
