Norton is a small place in Saline County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

The Story of Norton

Norton was officially planned and mapped out in 1878. When a place is platted, it means someone drew up a detailed map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be.

The community was named after an important person named Elijah Hise Norton. He was a respected judge who worked for the Supreme Court of Missouri. A judge's job is to make important decisions about laws and justice. The Supreme Court is the highest court in a state, making very important legal rulings.

A post office was opened in Norton in 1879. This was a place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, until it closed down in 1954.
