Notch is situated just north of the popular theme park, Silver Dollar City, along Missouri Route 76.

History of Notch

The community of Notch has an interesting past. A post office was first opened there in 1895. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years before closing in 1934.

The name "Notch" comes from how the area looked to early travelers. People used to mark trails by cutting "notches" or "blazes" into trees. These marks helped others find their way through the wilderness. So, the community was named after these trail markings on the road passing through it. Another name for the area was "The Forks," which might have referred to a place where roads or trails split off in different directions.
