Religious Communities in Notre Dame
Notre Dame is a significant place for several religious communities of Holy Cross. These are groups of people who live and work together based on their religious beliefs.
- Holy Cross Village: This is a retirement community for older adults. It is owned by the Brothers of Holy Cross and managed by the Franciscan Sisters.
- Headquarters: Notre Dame is home to the main offices for three major Holy Cross religious groups.
- The Sisters of the Holy Cross have their main administration offices on the campus of Saint Mary's College.
- The Congregation of Holy Cross has its regional offices (called Provincial Offices) on the Holy Cross College campus. These include the Midwest Province of Brothers and the Indiana Province of Priests and Brothers.
- Other groups, like the Eastern Province of Sisters and the Notre Dame Province of Holy Cross, also have a presence here.
Education in Notre Dame
Public schools in Notre Dame are part of the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC). This is the main public school system for the area.
- Local Schools: Children living in areas like the Landings at Notre Dame typically attend Darden Elementary School, Edison Middle School, and Clay High School.
- Student Housing: In the past, children of graduate students living in University Village attended Darden Primary, Tarkington Traditional Elementary, Clay Intermediate, and Clay High. However, since 2018, Fischer Graduate Residence became the main housing for students with children, as University Village closed.
