Now and Later is a popular American candy. It's a chewy, fruit-flavored treat, a bit like taffy. This candy comes in small square pieces, wrapped in bright, colorful paper. You can find it in different types, like the original chewy kind, a softer "Chewy" version, and "Morphs" which change flavor. The name "Now and Later" was chosen to remind you that you can enjoy some candy right away and save the rest for later!
The Story of Now and Later
Now and Later candy was first made in Brooklyn, New York, way back in 1962. It was created by a company called Phoenix Candy Company. In the 1960s and 1970s, Phoenix Candy Company even sold candy with toys, like Flash Gordon toys, along with Now and Later.
Over the years, Now and Later has been owned by several different companies.
- In 1978, Phoenix Candy Company was sold to Beatrice Foods.
- Then, in 1983, a company from Finland called Huhtamaki Oy bought the candy business. They later combined their candy brands under the name Leaf.
- Phoenix Candy Company was then sold again to a Finnish investment company, becoming Phoenix Confections.
In 1992, Nabisco bought Phoenix Confections. Now and Later became part of Nabisco's LifeSavers candy group. When Nabisco was bought by Phillip Morris in 2000, Now and Later became a Kraft Foods brand.
In 2002, a company called Catterton Partners bought several candy brands from Kraft and Hershey. These brands came together to form Farley's & Sathers Candy Company. Now and Later was one of these brands!
Finally, in 2012, Farley's & Sathers Candy Company joined with Ferrara Pan Candy Company. The new company became what we know today as Ferrara Candy Company, which still makes Now and Later candy.
