Nye was once a small community in Webb County, Texas, United States. It was located just two miles north of the bigger city of Laredo. Today, Nye is considered a former town because it no longer exists as a separate place.

Nye was established in 1882. It was named after a local farmer named Thomas C. Nye. He was an important person in the community.
How Nye Got Its Name
Thomas C. Nye was well-known for bringing a special type of onion to the area. In 1898, he introduced Bermuda Onions to the community. These onions became famous in the region.
What Happened to Nye?
Over time, the nearby city of Laredo grew bigger and bigger. Eventually, Laredo expanded so much that it absorbed the small community of Nye. This means Nye became a part of Laredo and stopped being a separate town.
