A Look Back at Oak Grove's Story
Oak Grove began to grow a lot starting in the 1970s. Many families from nearby Hattiesburg decided to move to this community. As more people arrived, new schools, churches, and businesses were built.
For a long time, there was a big discussion about whether Oak Grove should become its own official city or if it should join Hattiesburg. In 1987, Hattiesburg tried to expand its city limits to include Oak Grove. In response, a group called the "Oak Grove Concerned Citizens Association" wanted Oak Grove to become its own city. Both of these requests were turned down by the courts.
