The Obel Tower is a very tall building in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It stands right next to the River Lagan on Donegall Quay. This makes it a big part of the city's view.

The tower is about 85 meters (279 feet) high. This makes it the tallest building with many floors on the whole island of Ireland! When it was finished, it became taller than the previous tallest building in Belfast, Windsor House.

Building the Obel Tower

The Obel Tower was built by a company called the Karl Group. It cost about £60 million to build.

Apartments in the Tower

The tower has 233 apartments inside. When the first 182 apartments were offered for sale in 2005, they were very popular. People reserved them (meaning they agreed to buy them) within just two days!

Construction Work Starts and Stops

Work on the tower began in January 2006. First, they built the foundations and a two-story underground car park. In the middle of 2007, construction stopped for a while. All the building equipment was taken away. But then, work started again on June 17, 2008.

Adding More Floors

In January 2008, the builders got permission to add two more floors to the tower. This was because so many people wanted to live there. The building was supposed to be finished by summer 2010. However, because of the break in construction, it was not completed until spring 2011. These extra floors made the tower even taller, increasing its height from 80.5 meters to 85 meters.

New Owners for the Tower

In late 2012, the companies that managed the Obel Tower faced financial difficulties. Because of this, new people were put in charge to help sort things out. In early 2014, a company from New York bought the Obel development.

Tower Gets a Refresh

In 2016, the Obel Tower had a £2 million update. This work made the shared areas inside the building look new and improved. They also added special film to the windows.
