Ocean Drive is a very famous street in the South Beach area of Miami Beach. This city is located on the east coast of Florida, right next to the Atlantic Ocean. In July 2020, the city decided to close Ocean Drive to cars. This made it a great place for people to walk and enjoy outdoor restaurants.

Where is Ocean Drive?

Ocean Drive starts at South Pointe, which is just south of 1st Street. This is near the very bottom of the main island of Miami Beach. It is also very close to the Atlantic Ocean. The street then goes north all the way to 15th Street. This spot is right next to Lincoln Road.

Ocean Drive is well-known for its many Art Deco hotels and restaurants. These buildings have been seen in many movies and TV shows.

Famous Hotels on Ocean Drive

Colony Hotel: This hotel was built in 1939. It is known as the most photographed Art Deco hotel. It has appeared in many movies and TV shows, like the series Dexter.
Clevelander Hotel: This is another popular Art Deco hotel. It has a sports lounge inside. It also has a dance floor and a pool area on the first floor. There is even a cool lounge on the roof.
Carlyle Hotel: The outside of this hotel was used in the 1996 comedy movie The Birdcage. It was shown as a fun club in the film.

Ocean Drive in Movies and Games

The Sunray Apartments were shown in the movie Scarface from 1983. Also, the 2002 video game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, was inspired by Miami. It even has a street that looks just like Ocean Drive and has the same name.

Gianni Versace's House

Ocean Drive is also where the famous Casa Casuarina is located. This was the home of the Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace. After he passed away, the house was sold. It is now a special hotel. It is one of the most photographed houses in North America.

Ocean Drive's Unique Style

Ocean Drive was built mostly in the 1920s and 1930s. It is the heart of the Miami Beach Architectural District. This area has about 900 old buildings that have been kept in good condition. The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The buildings on Ocean Drive mostly show the Streamline Moderne style. This style grew from the Art Deco movement.

Ocean Drive in Pop Culture

The magazine Ocean Drive is named after this famous street. Also, a music group from the UK called The Lighthouse Family released a song called "Ocean Drive". This song was very popular and reached number 11 on the UK music charts.
