What is Ockwells Park Like?
Ockwells Park is a big place, about 130 acres. That's like 100 football fields! Inside the park, there's a special nature reserve. This reserve is about 9.3 hectares, which is a bit smaller.
The park has lots of fun things to do. You can find sports fields for games and a cafe if you get hungry. The nature reserve part of the park is beautiful. It has different areas like woodlands, open meadows, small groups of trees called copses, and even a stream.
The History of Ockwells Park
Ockwells Park was once part of a much larger area. This land belonged to the Ockwells Manor Estate.
Opening to the Public
The park first opened its gates to everyone in the 1980s. Later, in 1999, a section of the park was officially named a local nature reserve. This was done by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Jubilee Wood Project
Between December 2012 and February 2013, something special happened. One thousand new trees were planted in the park! This area is now called Jubilee Wood. The local council joined a project by the Woodland Trust. This project aimed to create new woodlands across the country.
Park Expansion
In the summer of 2016, the local council bought more land. This land was from a nearby place called Thrift Wood Farm. This made Ockwells Park much bigger! It added 86 acres to the original 44 acres.
The new part of the park opened in April 2017. Before it opened, the land was cleared. A new bridge was also built to connect it to the older part of the park.
