Odd Olsen Ingerø's Career
Odd Olsen Ingerø had an interesting career in public service. Before becoming Governor of Svalbard, he worked as a police chief. He was the chief of police in two different places: Sør-Varanger Municipality and Fredrikstad Municipality. He also worked as a deputy judge, helping with legal cases.
Governor of Svalbard: First Term
The Governor of Svalbard is like the main leader for the Svalbard islands. This person is in charge of keeping law and order, protecting the environment, and making sure everything runs smoothly. Odd Olsen Ingerø first became the Governor of Svalbard in 2001. He served in this important role until 2005. Before him, Morten Ruud was the Governor. After Odd Olsen Ingerø finished his first term, Sven Ole Fagernæs took over as acting Governor.
Leading the National Criminal Investigation Service
After his first time as Governor, Odd Olsen Ingerø took on another big job. In 2005, he was chosen to be the director of the National Criminal Investigation Service. This is a very important police agency in Norway that investigates serious crimes. He led this agency until 2009.
Governor of Svalbard: Second Term
Odd Olsen Ingerø returned to Svalbard for a second time as Governor. He started his second term on September 16, 2009. He took over from Per Sefland, who had been the Governor since 2005. Odd Olsen Ingerø served as Governor for six more years, ending his second term on October 1, 2015. After he left the position, Kjerstin Askholt became the new Governor of Svalbard.
