Welcome to Oddieworld!
Oddieworld is a special planet where all the lost socks end up. It's a big community of single socks, each with its own unique look and personality.
Who Are The Oddies?
The Oddies are the main characters in the series. They are the socks that have been transported to Oddieworld. Each Oddie has different skills and a special character.
Adventures on Oddieworld
The Oddieworld community is divided into two main groups. Each group lives on its own island.
Good vs. Bad Oddies
One island is called Good Oddie Island. The socks living there are usually helpful and kind. The other island is Bad Oddie Island, where socks might cause a bit of mischief! The first Oddies to arrive on this planet were Fairy, Witchy, and Wizzo. They have a special power to create new odd socks. These new socks are made with different skills and personalities. They either help the good Oddies or join the mischievous ones.
The Oddies in Schools
The Oddies books are very popular! They are used in many places across the UK. You can find them in schools, nurseries, libraries, and even with groups like the Scouts and Guides.
Read With Me Week
Every year, in the first week of November, there's a special event called "Read With Me Week." This event uses The Oddies books to encourage children to enjoy reading. It's a free program that helps kids have fun with storytelling. The week ends with an exciting competition. Children get to invent a brand-new character for The Oddies series! In 2005, about 500,000 children joined this competition. Because of "Read With Me Week" and The Oddies, eight children under ten years old have even become published authors!
A Real-Life Oddity
In a strange real-world event, something unusual happened with The Oddies. In September 2005, a very large delivery of socks went missing. These socks were meant to be sold along with the books. About 25,000 pairs of socks disappeared from a lorry depot near Ipswich.
