Oh Jin-hyek is a famous archer from South Korea. He was born on August 15, 1981. Oh Jin-hyek is known for his amazing skills with a bow and arrow. He has won many important medals, including gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Oh Jin-hyek made history by becoming the first Korean male archer to win an individual Olympic gold medal. He has been a top archer for many years, showing great talent and focus in his sport.
Oh Jin-hyek's Archery Journey
Oh Jin-hyek started competing for the Korean national team in 1999. He quickly became known for his unique and powerful way of shooting, called a "dynamic technique." He shoots for the Hyundai Steel corporate archery team.
Olympic Success
Oh Jin-hyek achieved his biggest dream at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He won the gold medal in the Men's individual event. This was a huge moment, as he was the first Korean male archer to win an individual Olympic gold.
He also won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. This was in the Men's team event, where he competed with his teammates Im Dong-hyun and Kim Bub-min.
Oh Jin-hyek continued his Olympic success at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He won another gold medal, this time in the Men's team event for South Korea. In the individual competition at the Tokyo Olympics, he was ranked 3rd but lost in the Round of 16.
World Championships and Other Wins
Oh Jin-hyek has also won many medals at the World Archery Championships. He won gold medals with his team in 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2021. He also won a gold medal in the mixed team event in 2013. He earned silver medals in individual events in 2011 and 2013.
From April 2013 to June 2014, Oh Jin-hyek was ranked as the number one archer in the world. During this time, he won an individual gold medal at the 2013 Archery World Cup Final. He has also won multiple gold medals at the Asian Games and Asian Archery Championships.
