Ohemaa Mercy is a famous Ghanaian gospel singer. She has won many awards for her music. She is known for her powerful voice and exciting performances.
Early life and education
Mercy Amoah, known as Ohemaa Mercy, was born in Weija, Accra. Her parents were from Abakrapa and Elmina. They were part of the Fante people. She spent most of her childhood in Koforidua.
Ohemaa Mercy went to St. Peter's Anglican Primary School in Koforidua. She then attended Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua. After high school, she studied at S.D.A Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua. There, she earned her Teacher's Certificate 'A'.
Music career
Ohemaa Mercy released her first album in late 2004. It was called Adamfo Papa. This album was played a lot on the radio. It helped Ohemaa become well-known. She was chosen as a possible winner for seven awards at the 2006 Ghana Music Awards. Later that year, she won the Discovery of the Year award for Gospel Music.
In 2007, Ohemaa Mercy released her second album, Edin Jesus. This album was a huge success. She sold 875,000 copies in just six months. This made it the best-selling album of that year.
The Edin Jesus album earned Ohemaa Mercy 10 nominations for the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. This was the most nominations any artist had ever received at that time. She won three awards at the event: Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Gospel Album of The Year. In the same year, she received a special Grand Medal award. This award was given to her by the former President of Ghana, John Kufuor.
In 2010–2011, Ohemaa released her third album, Wobeye Kese. This album also sold the most copies. It was at the top of all the major music charts in Ghana.
Four months after its release, this album also earned her four nominations at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards.
She won the Gospel Artiste of the Year award in Ghana. She also won Gospel Artiste of the Year in Canada that same year. She was nominated for Best Female Artiste West Africa at the Africa Gospel Music awards in London. She also won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 23 "Gospel Song Of The Year". This was for her song "Ote Me Mu" with MOG Music.
