Early Life and School

Mercy Amoah, known as Ohemaa Mercy, was born in Weija, Accra. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amoah, were from Abakrapa and Elmina. They are part of the Fante people.

Ohemaa Mercy spent most of her childhood in Koforidua. She went to St. Peter's Anglican Primary School there. For high school, she attended Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua. Later, she studied at S.D.A Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua. She earned her Teacher's Certificate 'A' from this college.

Ohemaa Mercy released her first music album in late 2004. It was called Adamfo Papa, which means "Good Friend." This album was played a lot on the radio. It helped Ohemaa Mercy become well-known.

In 2006, she received seven nominations for the Ghana Music Awards. She did not win any of those awards. However, she won the Discovery of the Year award at the Gospel Music Awards that same year.

Edin Jesus Album Success

In 2007, Ohemaa Mercy released her second album, Edin Jesus. This means "The Name Jesus." It was a huge success. She sold 875,000 copies in just six months. This made it the best-selling album of that year.

The Edin Jesus album earned Ohemaa Mercy 10 nominations for the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. This was the most nominations anyone had received in the history of the awards at that time. She won three awards: Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Gospel Album of The Year.

In the same year, she received a special award from Ghana's former President, John Kufuor. It was called a Grand Medal During the National Honours Award.

Later Albums and Awards

From 2010 to 2011, Ohemaa Mercy released her third album, Wobeye Kese. This means "You Will Be Great." It was also a top-selling album. It was number one on many music charts across the country.

Just four months after its release, this album earned her four nominations at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards. She won the Gospel Artiste of the Year award in Ghana. She also won Gospel Artiste of the Year in Canada that same year. She was nominated for Best Female Artiste West Africa at the Africa Gospel Music Awards in London.

More recently, in 2022, Ohemaa Mercy won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards "Gospel Song Of The Year." This was for her song "Ote Me Mu," which features MOG Music.

Ohemaa Mercy is known for her amazing live performances. She has performed on many big stages. Her powerful singing and stage presence have gained her a large fan base. People love her music and her energetic shows.
