History of Oilton
Oilton is located about 32 miles east of Laredo, Texas. The area was first called Torrecillas Towers. This name came from two special limestone rock formations nearby.
In 1922, something big happened: oil was found close to the community! Because of this discovery, the name was changed to Oilton. The oil discovery also helped the community grow bigger.

In 2000, the area of Oilton was about 0.8 square miles (2.2 square kilometers). All of this area was land. Before the 2010 census, Oilton's area grew. It became about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers), and it was still all land.
