Olaf Pooley (born Ole Krohn Pooley on March 13, 1914 – died July 14, 2015) was a talented English actor, writer, and painter. He was especially known for his role as Professor Stahlman in the popular science fiction TV show Doctor Who in 1970.

Early life and studies

Olaf Pooley was born in Parkstone, England. His father was English, and his mother was Danish. He loved art and studied painting at the Chelsea College of Arts in London and in Paris.

Later, he decided to study architecture to have a more secure job. During World War II, Pooley chose not to fight in the war because of his beliefs. He volunteered as a firefighter instead. After the war, he started his acting career on stage.

Acting and writing career

Olaf Pooley had a long and interesting career in entertainment. He acted in many films and TV shows. He also wrote and directed some movies. For example, he wrote and appeared in the film The Corpse. He also wrote, directed, and acted in a movie called The Johnstown Monster. He even wrote the story for the film The Godsend (1980).

On television, Pooley appeared in many well-known shows. He was in Dixon of Dock Green, MacGyver, and Star Trek: Voyager. One of his most famous roles was playing Professor Stahlman in the Doctor Who series Inferno in 1970. He also acted in many plays in London's famous West End theatre district and performed on BBC Radio.

Personal life

In 1946, Olaf Pooley married actress Irlin Hall. They had two children, Kirstie and Seyton, who also became actors. They later divorced. In 1982, he married director Gabrielle Beaumont, but they later separated.

In 1986, Pooley moved to the United States. He lived in Southern California and had an art studio in Santa Monica. He spent a lot of his time there focusing on his painting. He lived a very long life, celebrating his 100th birthday in 2014.

His passing

Olaf Pooley passed away on July 14, 2015, at the age of 101. He died from heart failure at his home in Santa Monica, California. He was remembered by his two children and four grandchildren.
