Olavi Johannes Mattila (born October 24, 1918 – died August 4, 2013) was an important Finnish politician. He served as Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs two times. He also held many other important jobs in the government during the 1960s and 1970s. Mr. Mattila was also the leader (CEO) of a big state-owned company called Valmet. He was known as a close friend and helper of Urho Kekkonen, who was the President of Finland for a long time.

Becoming an Engineer and Business Expert
Olavi Mattila was a very smart student. He earned a degree in engineering in 1946. Later, in 1950, he also got a master's degree in business. This showed he was good at both science and managing businesses.
Working as a Diplomat
From 1952 to 1960, Mr. Mattila worked as a diplomat for Finland. He lived and worked in other countries. He was part of Finnish diplomatic missions in Beijing, China, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Diplomats help represent their country and build good relationships with other nations.
Role in Trade and Industry
After his time as a diplomat, Olavi Mattila returned to Finland. He became a director in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. This ministry helps manage Finland's business and industrial activities.
