The Old Court Theatre is a special building in Scone, Australia. It used to be a courthouse, a place where important decisions were made. Today, it is a lively community theatre and playhouse. This historic building is located at 41 Kingdon Road. It is also known as the Old Courthouse. The Scone Community Amateur Dramatic Society Inc. now owns it. This important site was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on April 2, 1999.

History of the Old Court Theatre
The Old Court Theatre was built around 1882. It was first used as a courthouse. After it stopped being a courthouse, the building became quite old and wasn't well cared for. For a while, it was even used to store chemicals. These chemicals were used to control a plant called prickly pear.
Restoring the Historic Building
In 2014, the Old Court House got a big makeover. It received new roof sheets and gutters. The outside and inside were painted. A special ramp was also added for people with disabilities. This restoration cost a lot of money. Most of the funds came from Heritage NSW and the Upper Hunter Shire Council. A local bank also gave a donation.
The Theatre Today
Thanks to these efforts, the building is now a busy place. It hosts many different events. You can attend lectures, watch plays, or go to community gatherings. It's a great example of how old buildings can find new life.
What the Old Court Theatre Looks Like
The front of the theatre faces Kingdon Street. It has a grand entrance with steps. These steps lead up to a covered porch area. On each side of the steps, you'll see two small, pretty shrubs. A low picket fence runs along the front of the property.
Plants and Trees Around the Theatre
On both sides of the building, there are grassy areas with trees. To the left of the front, there is a golden rain tree. Along the eastern side, you can spot several oleander shrubs. To the right, set back a bit, is a Brazilian peppercorn tree.
Other Buildings on the Property
On the Aberdeen Street side, which is the western side, there are two smaller buildings behind the theatre. One is a brick building, and further back is a shed made of corrugated iron. Behind these buildings, you'll find a group of silky oak trees. The pepper tree mentioned earlier is also in this area.
Why the Old Court Theatre is Important
The Old Court Theatre is considered very important. It is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register. This means it is protected because of its history and special features. It was added to the register on April 2, 1999. This listing helps make sure the building is preserved for future generations.
