Oldtown is a small place in Ohio, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own separate government like a city. Instead, it's part of Xenia Township in Greene County.
A Look Back: Oldtown's History
Long ago, Oldtown was a very important place for the Shawnee people. It was one of their biggest settlements in Ohio. This area was their home for many years.
Later, in 1839, settlers from other places arrived. They first called the area Old Chillicothe. They also planned out the town's streets and lots. This process of mapping and dividing land for building is called 'platting'.
A post office named Old Town opened in 1886. It helped people send letters and packages. The post office stayed open for about 16 years, closing in 1902.
Great Council State Park
A new place called the Great Council State Park is planned for Oldtown. It is set to open in 2023. This park will teach visitors about the history of the Shawnee people. It will also share stories about important leaders like Tecumseh. The park aims to help everyone learn more about this rich history.
