Ole Selnæs's Football Journey
Starting Out in Football
Ole Selnæs was born in Trondheim, Norway. When he was young, his family lived in Lillestrøm. This was because his dad, Ivar Selnæs, was a coach for Skjetten SK. Ole played in the youth teams there. Later, his family moved back to Trondheim, and Ole joined Sverresborg IF.
Playing for Rosenborg
In 2009, Ole joined Rosenborg, a famous Norwegian club. People noticed his accurate left foot and his good understanding of the game. These skills helped him become a strong defensive midfielder.
In 2011, Ole was a key player for Rosenborg's under-19 team. They won the national championship that year. He also helped them get third place in their NextGen Series group. Even though he wasn't well-known outside the club yet, he was becoming important inside. He played a big part in the first team's training before the 2012 season.
Because he played so well in pre-season, Ole signed a professional contract on March 25. He started the season as a back-up player. But soon, he became a regular starter in the midfield. His first professional game was on April 1, 2012, against Lillestrøm. He came on as a substitute. The next week, he started his first game at home against Sogndal.
After only four league matches, a website called scan-scout.com called him the biggest talent in Scandinavia. Rosenborg's coach, Jan Jönsson, was not surprised. He said Ole had developed very quickly. Ole played regularly for Rosenborg in the first half of 2012. However, an injury made him lose his starting spot. After he got better, Rosenborg had bought new players. This limited Ole's chances to play. But he said in an interview that he was only 19 and had plenty of time to work hard for more chances.
Moving to Other Clubs
Ole Selnæs moved to AS Saint-Étienne in France on January 31, 2016. After playing there for a few years, he transferred to Shenzhen in China on February 9, 2019.
On June 24, 2022, Ole signed a one-year deal with Zürich in Switzerland. He accidentally scored an own goal in a UEFA Europa League match against Glimt on September 15, 2022.
Playing for Norway
Ole Selnæs played for Norway's national youth teams. He played for the under-16 team all the way up to the under-21 team.
By February 2021, he had played 32 games for the senior national team. He scored two goals for his country. His first goal was against San Marino in a World Cup qualification game on October 5, 2017. Norway won that game 8–0. His second goal was against Slovenia on October 13, 2018, in a UEFA Nations League game. Norway won 1–0.
Ole's Personal Life
Ole Selnæs is a big fan of the Norwegian TV show Hotel Cæsar. In an interview in March 2012, he said he would love to act in the show. Two months later, he was offered a small speaking role in the TV series!
