Olive is a small, quiet place in St. Joseph County, Indiana, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger county or township it's part of. Olive is located within Olive Township.
History of Olive, Indiana
The community of Olive got its name from Olive Township, the larger area it belongs to. In the early days, a post office was opened in Olive in 1836. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. However, this post office didn't stay open for very long. It was closed down just one year later, in 1837. Even though it was a short-lived post office, it shows that Olive was a recognized place where people lived and needed services back then.
