History of Olive Branch
How Olive Branch Started
Olive Branch officially became a community in 1875. We don't know exactly why it was named "Olive Branch." However, the name "olive branch" often means peace. So, it might have been chosen to show a desire for peace after some kind of disagreement or separation. We would need more information to be sure about the name's origin.
Before the community was officially formed, a special building called a meeting house was built. This meeting house was located on the hills above Gourdvine Creek. Gourdvine Creek flows into Richardson Creek. The meeting house was on Olive Branch-Monroe Road, close to where the E. L. Davis Cemetery is today.
