Olive Green started to grow in 1856. That year, the first store was built there. Soon after, a mill was also built, which was important for grinding grain. The community got its name from a nearby stream called Olive Green Creek.
A post office opened in Olive Green in 1857. This was a key place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years, until it closed its doors in 1925.
