Oloʻupena Falls, also known as Oloupena Falls, is a super tall waterfall found on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Many people say it's the fourth highest waterfall in the entire world! It's also known as the tallest waterfall in the United States.

What Makes Oloʻupena Falls Special?

Location and How It Forms

This amazing waterfall is located on the northeastern side of Molokai, one of the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. It's a bit tricky to see because it flows down one of the world's tallest sea cliffs! Imagine a huge wall of rock right by the ocean.

The water comes from a small stream that only flows during certain times of the year, especially after it rains. This stream tumbles over the edge of the cliff, creating the stunning Oloʻupena Falls. Over many, many years, the water has carved a special path or "groove" into the cliff face.

How Tall is Oloʻupena Falls?

Oloʻupena Falls is incredibly tall! It drops about 2,953 feet (which is about 900 meters). To give you an idea, that's almost as tall as three Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! It's considered a "tiered" waterfall, meaning the water falls in several steps or sections, not just one big drop.

How Can You See It?

Because Oloʻupena Falls is located on such a tall, steep cliff, it's not easy to visit. You can't just hike to it! The best ways to see this magnificent waterfall are from the ocean, perhaps on a boat tour, or from the air in a helicopter. Seeing it from these viewpoints gives you an amazing perspective of its height and the dramatic cliffs around it.
