Olympia Vernon was born on May 22, 1973. She is an American author. She has written three novels. These books are Eden (published in 2002), Logic (published in 2004), and A Killing In This Town (published in 2006). Her novel Eden won an important award in 2004. It was the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award. This award came from The American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Olympia's Education and Early Career

Olympia went to South Pike High School. This school is in Magnolia, Mississippi. She then went to Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU). In 1999, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree there. She also studied at Louisiana State University. In 2002, she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing.

After finishing her studies, Olympia became a writer-in-residence at SLU in 2004. This means she was a special writer who taught and inspired students there.

Her Journey as a Novelist

Olympia wrote her first novel, Eden, while she was still in graduate school. This shows how dedicated she was to writing!

In 2005, she received a special honor. It was the Louisiana Governor's Award for Professional Artist of the Year. This award recognized her amazing talent as an artist.

Later, in 2007 and 2008, Olympia was a special writing professor. She held the Hallie Ford Chair in Writing at Willamette University. In 2007, she won another big award. It was the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence. She won this award for her novel A Killing In This Town.
