Omaha, Missouri facts for kids
Omaha is a small place in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
A Look Back in Time
The first people to settle permanently in Omaha arrived in 1845. They started building homes and creating a community there.
Later, in 1860, a post office was opened in Omaha. Post offices were very important back then because they were the main way people sent and received letters and packages. This post office helped connect the small community of Omaha with the rest of the country. It stayed open for many years, until 1908. The name "Omaha" itself was chosen by the postal officials who set up the post office.
