Omar Gergely Salim, born on April 12, 2003, is a talented taekwondo athlete. He has both American and Hungarian roots. Omar is the youngest son of Gergely Salim, who was also an Olympic champion in taekwondo. In 2022, Omar became a Hungarian citizen.

Omar's Taekwondo Journey
Omar Salim has achieved great success in taekwondo. He won a gold medal at the 2021 European Taekwondo Championships in the men's 54 kg category. This big win happened in Sofia.
Just one month later, he earned a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics. He qualified through a special tournament in Europe. Omar competed in the taekwondo event at the Tokyo Olympics. He did not advance past the first round there.

Omar has won several important medals:
- Gold Medal: At the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, he won gold in the 54 kg category.

Omar's Family and Supporters
Omar comes from a family of taekwondo champions. His father, Gergely Salim, was an Olympic, world, and European champion. Omar's background is a mix of Tanzanian and Hungarian heritage from his father's side.
His uncle, József Salim, was also a very successful taekwondo athlete. He won six European medals for Hungary. Omar's brother, Shariff Salim, is also a taekwondo athlete and his training partner. Shariff won the Pan American Junior championship in 2019, the same year Omar did.
Zlatan Ibrahimović's Support
A famous supporter and sponsor of Omar is Zlatan Ibrahimović. Zlatan is a well-known Swedish football player. He used to train with Omar's father, Master Gergely Salim, at his taekwondo center in Los Angeles. Zlatan played for the LA Galaxy football team from 2018 to 2019. He has always been very passionate about taekwondo.
