Omar Gergely Salim (born April 12, 2003) is a talented taekwondo athlete. He competes for Hungary but was born in the United States. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that uses lots of kicks and punches. Omar is the youngest son of Gergely Salim, who was also an Olympic champion in taekwondo. Omar became a Hungarian citizen in 2022.

Omar's Taekwondo Journey
Omar Salim has achieved a lot in his taekwondo career. He won a gold medal at the 2021 European Taekwondo Championships in the men's 54 kg category. This was a big win for him!
Competing in the Olympics
Just one month after his European win, Omar qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. This was a huge step for him as a young athlete. Even though he didn't get past the first round at the Olympics, it was still amazing to compete at such a high level.
More Gold Medals
Omar continued to win gold medals at the European Taekwondo Championships. He won again in 2022 in Manchester, England, and in 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia. He also won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championships in 2022 in Guadalajara, Mexico. These wins show how dedicated and skilled he is in taekwondo.
Omar's Family and Supporters
Omar comes from a family of taekwondo champions. His father, Gergely Salim, is a former Olympic, world, and European champion. This means Omar grew up with taekwondo all around him!
A Family of Fighters
Omar's uncle, József Salim, was also a very successful taekwondo athlete for Hungary. He won six medals at the European Championships. Omar's brother, Shariff Salim, is also a taekwondo practitioner and his training partner. Shariff won a gold medal at the Pan American Junior Championships in 2019, the same year Omar won his junior gold.
Zlatan Ibrahimović's Support
Did you know that famous Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović is one of Omar's supporters? Zlatan used to train with Omar's father, Gergely Salim, at his taekwondo center in Los Angeles. Zlatan played for the LA Galaxy football team from 2018 to 2019 and has always loved taekwondo. It's cool that a football star supports a taekwondo champion!
