About the Story

The story of On My Honor follows two best friends, Joel and Tony. They are very different but share a strong bond. One day, they decide to go on a bike ride. Tony wants to climb a dangerous cliff called Starved Rock. Joel, however, knows it's too risky.

Joel's father tells them to be careful. He makes Joel promise "on his honor" not to go past Starved Rock and to turn back if they get tired. Joel agrees, making a serious promise.

A Risky Decision

Despite their plans, Tony changes his mind. He suggests they go for a swim in a nearby river. This river is known to be very dangerous, and they were told never to swim there. Joel feels worried, but he doesn't want Tony to think he's scared.

Joel then suggests a swimming race in the forbidden river. He knows Tony might not be a strong swimmer. Joel wins the race, but when he looks back, Tony is gone. Tony got into serious trouble in the water and did not resurface.

Dealing with the Secret

Joel tries desperately to find his friend, but he can't. He calls for help, and people nearby try to assist, but Tony is still missing. Soon, the police arrive to investigate.

Joel carries a heavy secret about what happened. Eventually, the truth comes out to both families and the police. Joel bravely decides to tell everyone what happened. Joel's father also feels sad and tries to comfort Joel during this difficult time. The story explores themes of friendship, promises, and dealing with difficult consequences.
