Where is Oneida Corners?

A Look Back in Time: History of Oneida Corners

Oneida Corners has a rich past. Around the time of the American Revolutionary War (a big war where America became independent), it was a busy place. The hamlet had two inns where travelers could stay. There were also three shops for buying goods.

People could find a lumber business and mechanic shops here. There was even a church for the community. Court meetings were held in the hamlet at least once a week. This shows how important the area was.

Before the war, an Oneida Indian named Thomas Hammond had a successful business. His shop was at this very corner. Because his business was so well-known, people started calling the area "the Oneidas." Later, around the year 1800, it became known as Oneida Corners.
