The Opel Sintra was a large family car.

The Opel Sintra was a type of large family car called an MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle). It was made by the German car company Opel. This car was produced for a short time, from 1996 to 1999. In most of Europe, it was known as the Opel Sintra. But in Great Britain, it was sold under the name Vauxhall Sintra.

What Was the Opel Sintra?

The Opel Sintra was designed to be a spacious car for families. MPVs are known for having lots of room inside. They are great for carrying many passengers or lots of luggage. The Sintra was one of the larger MPVs available at the time.

Why Did Production Stop?

The Opel Sintra was only made for a few years. One big reason for this was its safety rating.

Safety Test Results

In 1998, a group called Euro NCAP tested the Sintra. Euro NCAP checks how safe cars are in crashes. The Sintra did not do very well in these tests. It only scored 2.5 stars out of a possible five. This low score was a major concern for Opel.

Other Criticisms

Besides the safety concerns, the Sintra also faced other criticisms. Some people thought its design was not very exciting. Others felt that the car was not built very well. These issues, combined with the safety rating, led Opel to stop making the Sintra in 1999.

What Replaced the Sintra?

When the Sintra stopped being made in 1999, another Opel MPV, the Opel Zafira, came out. The Zafira was a smaller MPV based on the Opel Astra car. Because of this, some people thought the Zafira replaced the Sintra. However, Opel never made another large MPV after the Sintra. Eventually, Opel decided not to make large MPVs for the European market anymore.
