The Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association (OREA) is a Christian ministry. It was started by Oral Roberts, a Pentecostal minister and faith healer. Today, his son, Richard Roberts, leads the organization.
OREA began by holding traveling revival meetings. These meetings often included claims of healing sick people. In 1963, the ministry founded Oral Roberts University. Later, in 2007, the university and the association became financially separate. This happened after a legal case involving Roberts.
How It Started
Oral Roberts said his ministry began after he was healed. He believed God spoke to him and cured his tuberculosis and stuttering. In 1947, he held his first healing service. This event took place in downtown Enid, Oklahoma.
After that, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, he started holding large tent meetings. During the 1950s, Oral Roberts expanded his work. He printed and sent out many books and pamphlets. He also started his television ministry. This helped him reach people all over the world.
In 1958, he created the Abundant Life Prayer Group. Soon, people from many countries were calling for prayer. By 1962, Oral Roberts began building Oral Roberts University.
Leadership Today
In 1980, Oral's son, Richard Roberts, started his own healing ministry. He later became the President of Oral Roberts Ministries. Richard Roberts still holds healing rallies. These events take place in the United States and other countries.
Richard also hosts a nightly TV show called The Place for Miracles. His wife, Lindsay Roberts, hosts a daily program. Her show is called Make Your Day Count. It focuses on helping women.
