Orna Porat Children's Theater facts for kids
The Orna Porat Children's Theater is a special place where young people can enjoy amazing plays! It was started in 1970 by a famous actress named Orna Porat and the Minister of Education at the time, Yigal Alon. This theater is the oldest of its kind in Israel, meaning it has been putting on shows for kids for a very long time!
It's currently located in the Ohel Shem building on Balfour Street in Tel Aviv. Before that, it was at the Yaron Yerushalmi hall of the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater.
The theater is a non-profit organization. This means all the money it earns goes right back into making more plays and helping the theater grow. It gets support from the Ministry of Education and the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality. The main goal of the theater is to introduce young audiences to the world of theater. They want to give kids a fun artistic experience and teach them important values through art.
Every year, the theater performs about 20 different plays. Around 400,000 people watch these shows at festivals, special events, and other theaters across Israel and even in other countries. The theater also has an educational team. They organize "theater days," where kids can meet actors and writers. They also offer workshops for children and teenagers to learn about theater.
In 2010, the theater started the Yaron Festival – A World of Theater. This festival happens every year during the Purim holiday. It features famous plays from around the world, fun workshops, and chances to meet artists and authors.
The current CEO of the theater is Ran Gwetta. The artistic director, who helps choose and create the plays, is Yaki Mechrez.
