Osamu Umeyama (梅山 修, Umeyama Osamu, born August 16, 1973) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender for several teams in Japan's top football leagues.

Osamu Umeyama's Football Journey

Early Career and First Steps

Osamu Umeyama was born in Saitama, Japan, on August 16, 1973. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey in 1992. His first club was NKK, which played in the Japan Football League (JFL). The JFL was a major football league in Japan at that time. Umeyama played many games as a right-side defender for NKK. However, the club stopped playing at the end of the 1993 season.

Rising Through the Ranks

In 1994, Umeyama joined another JFL club called Fujieda Blux, which later became known as Avispa Fukuoka. He quickly became a regular player, meaning he played almost every game. His team did very well, winning the JFL championship in 1995. This victory was a big deal because it meant the club was promoted to the J1 League starting in 1996. The J1 League is the highest level of professional football in Japan.

Moving to FC Tokyo and Beyond

In 1998, Umeyama moved to Tokyo Gas, another JFL club that later became FC Tokyo. He continued to play many matches, helping his new team achieve great success. FC Tokyo was promoted to the J2 League in 1999, which is the second-highest league. Then, in 2000, they were promoted again to the top-tier J1 League.

However, in 2000, FC Tokyo brought in another strong defender, which meant Umeyama didn't get to play as much. To get more game time, he went on loan to Verdy Kawasaki in June 2000. After his loan, he returned to FC Tokyo in 2001, but he still found it hard to get into the main team.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2002, Umeyama joined Shonan Bellmare, a club in the J2 League. He played regularly for two seasons there, showing his consistent skills as a defender. In 2004, he moved to Albirex Niigata, a team in the J1 League. He played many games for them over three seasons. Osamu Umeyama decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2006 season, after a long and successful career playing for various clubs across Japan's top leagues. He played a total of 289 league matches throughout his career.
