The Oscar C. Diehl House is a special home located at 919 East Park Drive in Midland, Michigan. It was built a long time ago and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical building that is protected.

A Look Back: The House's Story

Oscar C. Diehl was a salesman who worked for the Dow Chemical Company. In 1935, he and his wife decided to build a new house. They chose a famous architect named Alden B. Dow to design it. The house was built by the Bay City Stone Company. It cost about $13,020 and was mostly finished in the same year, 1935. Later, in the late 1970s, part of the garage was changed into an extra bedroom.

What Does the House Look Like?

The Oscar C. Diehl House is made of brick and has a unique L-shape. It has low-pitched roofs that are slightly slanted. These features remind people of the "Prairie style" of architecture. The house sits on a small corner lot. One part of the L-shape holds the main living areas and has two floors. The other part, which is long and narrow, contains the garage.

A large chimney connects the two parts of the house. The main entrance is also near this chimney. The garage side of the house has a solid brick wall. However, the living areas have large windows with a cool diamond pattern made of leaded glass.
