The National Iranian South Oilfields Company (NISOC) is a company owned by the government of Iran. It works under the Ministry of Petroleum of Iran and is part of the National Iranian Oil Company.
NISOC is a very important company in Iran's energy industry. It helps Iran get a lot of its oil and natural gas.
What is NISOC?
NISOC was started in 1971 in a place called Masjed Soleyman in Khouzestan. Back then, it was known as the Oil Service Company of Iran (OSCO).
Today, NISOC is the biggest oil producer in Iran. It produces about 3 million barrels of oil every single day! This company is active in a huge area, more than 400,000 square kilometers. Its main office is in Ahvaz.
NISOC produces about 83% of all the crude oil and 17% of the natural gas in Iran. This makes it the largest oil company in the country.
What NISOC Does
The National Iranian South Oilfields Company, along with its smaller companies, produces crude oil, natural gas, and liquefied gases. These are all important energy sources.
The company manages some of the biggest oil fields in Iran. These include the Ahvaz Field, which is the third largest oil field in the world! It also manages other large fields like Gachsaran, Marun, Bibi Hakimeh, RagSefid, and Aghajari.
NISOC mainly focuses on finding and taking out oil and gas from the ground in certain provinces. These provinces are Khuzestan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Bushehr, and Ilam. Since Khuzestan is the main area for oil and gas, NISOC is one of the most important parts of the National Iranian Oil Company.
