Oskar Linnros's Music Journey
Starting with Snook
Oskar Linnros began his music career as a rapper in the hip hop duo Snook. He formed the group with his friend Daniel Adams-Ray. Snook released two albums: Vi vet inte vart vi ska men vi ska komma dit in 2004 and Är in 2006.
The band's unique hip hop style received both praise and some criticism. Despite what some critics said, Snook had many hit songs. They also won awards from the radio station P3, the 2003 Swedish Hip-hop Awards, and were named the best Swedish band at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006.
After Snook
After a while, the Snook group went their separate ways. Daniel Adams-Ray went to design school. Oskar Linnros started focusing on producing music for other artists. He worked with rapper Petter, the band Fibes, Oh Fibes!, and singer Veronica Maggio.
The album Oskar produced and wrote for Veronica Maggio, Och vinnaren är..., was nominated for five Swedish Grammy awards. Oskar also helped start a rap group called Maskinen, which mixed different music styles. He later left Maskinen, explaining that it was a fun project with friends, but he wanted to create music that was more meaningful to him.
Solo Music Career
In June 2010, Oskar Linnros released his first solo album, Vilja bli. He wrote, played, and produced the entire album himself. This album was different because it had very little rap music. Instead, it sounded more like popular Swedish artists from the late 1980s and early 1990s, like Mauro Scocco and Orup. Oskar said he wanted to bring back an updated version of that classic sound. He also mentioned soul music legends like Donny Hathaway and Al Green as inspirations.
The album received excellent reviews from music critics. One famous music journalist, Jan Gradvall, called it "one of the most complete Swedish debut albums I have heard and full of hits." Oskar was nominated for a Swedish Grammy award in 2018 for "Best Pop" for his album "Väntar på en Ängel."
