Oskar Linnros's Music Journey
Starting with Snook
Oskar Linnros began his career as a rapper. He was in a hip hop duo called Snook with Daniel Adams-Ray. The band released two albums. The first was Vi vet inte vart vi ska men vi ska komma dit in 2004. The second was Är in 2006.
Snook's music was different from typical hip hop. Some people really liked it, while others didn't. Some critics said the band wasn't "real" hip hop. This was partly because Daniel Adams-Ray grew up in a wealthy area. Despite some criticism, Snook had many hit songs. They won awards from the radio station P3. They also won the 2003 Swedish Hip-hop Awards and were named best Swedish band at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006.
After Snook: Producing and New Projects
After a while, the members of Snook went their separate ways. Daniel Adams-Ray went to design school. Oskar Linnros started working as a music producer for other artists. He produced music for rapper Petter and the band Fibes, Oh Fibes!.
He also worked closely with singer Veronica Maggio. Oskar produced and wrote songs for her album Och vinnaren är.... This album was nominated for five Swedish Grammies, which are like music awards. Oskar and Veronica met while working on a remix for Petter.
Oskar also started a rap group called Maskinen. This group was inspired by Baile funk and electro music. Oskar later left Maskinen. He explained that it was a fun project with friends, but he wanted to make music that was more meaningful than "fastfood music."
Solo Career and New Sound
In June 2010, Oskar Linnros released his first solo album, Vilja bli. He wrote, played, and produced the entire album himself. This album was different because it had almost no rap vocals. People quickly compared his new sound to popular Swedish artists from the late 1980s and early 1990s, like Mauro Scocco, Orup, and Peter LeMarc.
Oskar said he wanted to bring back an updated version of that classic sound. He also mentioned Donny Hathaway and Al Green as influences. The album received excellent reviews. A well-known music journalist, Jan Gradvall, wrote that Vilja bli was "one of the most complete Swedish debut album[s] I have heard and full of hits." In 2018, Oskar was nominated for a Swedish Grammy for "Best Pop" for his album "Väntar på en Ängel."
