Othello Methelda Henderson III, born on August 23, 1972, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the New Orleans Saints for two seasons. The Saints picked him in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL draft. Before joining the NFL, he played college football at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Othello Henderson's Early Life and College Football
Othello Henderson was born in Killeen, Texas, on August 23, 1972. He went to Ellison High School in Killeen. After high school, Othello played college football for the UCLA Bruins. He played from 1990 to 1992.
He was a "letterman" for three years. This means he played well enough to earn a special award. In 1991, he caught two "interceptions." An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an opposing player. He caught another interception in 1992. In 1992, coaches named him second-team All-Pac-10. This was a big honor for college players in his conference. Othello decided to enter the NFL draft early, skipping his senior year.
Othello Henderson's Professional Football Career
The New Orleans Saints picked Othello Henderson in the 1993 NFL draft. He was the 193rd player chosen overall, in the seventh round. He officially joined the team on June 22, 1993.
Playing for the New Orleans Saints
The Saints released him on August 30, 1993. But they signed him to their "practice squad" the very next day. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but don't play in games. They can be called up to the main team if needed.
Othello was moved to the active roster on October 14, 1993. This meant he could now play in official games. During the 1993 season, he played in five games and started one. He made 12 "tackles." A tackle is when a defensive player brings down an opposing player with the ball. In 1994, he played in all 16 games. He made 11 solo tackles and one assisted tackle. He also recovered two "fumbles." A fumble is when a player loses control of the ball.
Moving to Other NFL Teams
In February 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars chose Othello Henderson. This happened in the 1995 NFL expansion draft. An expansion draft is when new teams pick players from other teams. He was the 23rd player chosen in the 12th round. However, the Jaguars released him in May 1995.
On January 18, 1996, Othello signed with the Green Bay Packers. But he was released by the Packers on April 4, 1996. After this, Othello Henderson's professional football career ended.
