Otto Steinert (born July 12, 1915 – died March 3, 1978) was an important German photographer. He is known for his unique style and for helping to shape modern photography after World War II.

Life and Photography Work

Otto Steinert was born in Saarbrücken, Germany. He was a medical doctor by profession, but he taught himself how to take photographs. This means he was self-taught in photography.

After World War II, Steinert started working at the State School for Art and Craft in Saarbrücken. Today, this school is known as the HTW.

He later became the founder of a famous photography group called Fotoform. This group was known for its experimental and artistic approach to photography.

From 1959, Otto Steinert taught photography at the Folkwang Hochschule design school in Essen. He lived and worked there until he passed away.

Today, many of his photographs are kept in the photographic collection of the Museum Folkwang in Essen. This collection helps preserve his important work for future generations.
