Ough, Nebraska facts for kids
Ough was once a small place in Dundy County, Nebraska. It was called an "unincorporated community." This means it was a settlement without its own local government. Today, only a farmhouse, a few buildings, and three tall silos are left there.
The Story of Ough
Ough began to grow in 1886. That year, a special building called a post office opened there. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. Having a post office was very important for small communities back then. It helped people stay connected.
The community was named after John Ough. He was the very first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the post office. The town was also named for his three brothers.
Ough reached its biggest size in 1890. About 25 people lived there at that time. However, the post office closed in 1912. After that, fewer people lived in Ough, and it slowly became the quiet place it is today.
