History of the Church Building
Early Beginnings
The story of this church began in 1893. At that time, a smaller chapel was opened. This chapel served the local Catholic community in Ramsey. People worked hard to gather more money. They wanted to build a larger and more beautiful church.
Building the New Church
Plans for a new church started to come together. A famous architect named Giles Gilbert Scott designed the building. Construction began in 1909. The church was finished the very next year, in 1910. Inside the church, there is a special decorative screen behind the altar. This screen is called a reredos. It was created by an artist named Frances Bessie Burlison.

Our Lady, Star of the Sea & St Maughold Church is recognized as a Registered Buildings of the Isle of Man. This means it is an important historical building. It is protected because of its special architecture and history.
