Building the Church
This church was the very first one designed by a talented architect named F G (Frank) Broadbent. He lived from 1909 to 1983. Broadbent was part of an architecture firm called Goodhart-Rendel, Broadbent and Curtis.
The first stone for the church was placed in November 1953. This special event was led by the Right Reverend Monsignor Cyril Cowderoy. He was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Southwark at that time.
Opening and Growth
The church officially opened its doors on May 9, 1954. A few years later, in 1963, the church building was made bigger to welcome more people.
The church had a special dedication ceremony in June 1971. This important event was also led by Archbishop Cyril Cowderoy. Later, in 1992, a new hall for the church community was built.
In 1959, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church became its own official parish. This means it became an independent church community. Today, the priest who leads the church is Monsignor William Saunders.
