Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Richmond is a Roman Catholic church. It is located on Sheen Road in Richmond, London. The church serves the East Sheen area. It is also known as Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, East Sheen. This is because it is very close to the border with East Sheen.
About Our Lady Queen of Peace Church
This church was the first one designed by the architect Frank Broadbent. He was part of a group of architects called Goodhart-Rendel, Broadbent and Curtis.
Building the Church
The first stone for the church was laid in November 1953. This was done by Monsignor Cyril Cowderoy. He was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Southwark at the time.
The church officially opened its doors on May 9, 1954. Later, in 1963, the church building was made bigger. It was officially dedicated in June 1971 by Archbishop Cyril Cowderoy. A new hall for the church community was built in 1992.
The Church as a Parish
In 1959, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church became its own parish. A parish is a local church community. The main priest for this church is Monsignor William Saunders.
