The Our Lady of the Annunciation Church is a Catholic church. It is also known as the "Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation and the Martyrs of Japan." You can find it in the town of St. Martin on the island of Jersey. Jersey is a British Crown dependency and part of the Channel Islands.
About the Church
This church follows the Roman or Latin rite of the Catholic Church. It is managed by the Diocese of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. A diocese is like a special area that a bishop oversees.
Besides services in English, the church also holds Masses in Polish. This is because many Polish people live in the area.
Church History and Name
The church building you see today was finished in 1863. It was given the name "Martyrs of Japan" because it was blessed on their special feast day. The Martyrs of Japan were a group of Christians who died for their faith in Japan a long time ago.
Because of its important history, the church was added to a list of special sites in Jersey in 2007. This helps to protect it. In 2008, a new entrance area, called a porch, was built.
