Another nearby community, Mystic, is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) to the northeast. Owasco sits on a raised area, like a small hill, between two creeks. These creeks are called East Yellow Creek and West Yellow Creek. They are part of the Yellow Creek system.

The History of Owasco

Owasco has a history that goes back to the mid-1800s. A post office was first opened in Owasco in 1858. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years. It stayed open until 1919. Besides the post office, Owasco also had a country store. This store would have been a central place for people to buy everyday items. The name "Owasco" comes from a Native American language. It means "bridge."
