Owen, Missouri facts for kids
Owen was once a small town in Lincoln County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Today, it is known as an "extinct town" or a ghost town because no one lives there anymore.
The Story of Owen
Owen was officially planned and laid out in 1884. This process, called "platting," means that its streets and building lots were drawn on a map. The town was named after a local businessman, James W. Owen.
A post office was opened in Owen in 1883, even before the town was formally planned. This post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1915. After the post office closed, people gradually moved away, and Owen became a ghost town.
