Owen Morris's Music Journey
Starting in Music
Owen Morris began his career in music when he was just 16 years old. He worked as a sound engineer at Spaceward Studio in Cambridge, England. A sound engineer helps record and mix music. He continued in this role until 1994.
Working with Famous Bands
In 1994, Owen Morris helped mix and master Oasis's first album, Definitely Maybe. This album became very popular! He continued to work with Oasis on their next two big albums: (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (released in 1995) and Be Here Now (released in 1997). You can even spot Owen Morris on the cover of (What's the Story) Morning Glory? – he's holding the album's master tape!
He also produced albums for other well-known bands. These include the Verve's album A Northern Soul (1995) and Ash's album 1977 (1996). In 2000, he recorded and produced another Ash album called Free All Angels.
Owen Morris also helped the Paddingtons create their first album, First Comes First, which came out in 2005. In 2006, he produced Hats Off to the Buskers, the first album by the Dundee band the View. This album was a huge success and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart!
Later Projects
Owen Morris continued to work on many exciting projects. He mixed several songs for the Kaiser Chiefs' album The Future Is Medieval, including the song "Little Shocks".
In 2011, he composed and performed the music for a film called Tower Block. He also produced five songs for Madness's last album.
In 2013, Owen Morris went back to his work with Oasis. He helped re-master their first three albums for special 20th-anniversary re-releases. Re-mastering means making the sound quality even better for today's listeners.
More recently, in 2014, he mixed songs for the Jackals and an album for the Glorious. He also recorded Italian singer Nathalie. Later that year, he produced albums for the Spanish band Stay and the American band Prehab. In 2015, he produced the first album for a rock trio from Edinburgh called Miracle Glass Company.
Life Outside the Studio
Owen Morris has now retired from his busy music career. He lives in Costa Rica, a beautiful country known for its beaches and rainforests.
