Owens Brown is an American politician and activist. He served in the West Virginia Senate from 2021 to 2022. This is a part of the state government. He represented the 1st district.
He was chosen for the role in September 2021. He took over from William Ihlenfeld. Mr. Ihlenfeld left to become a U.S. Attorney. When Owens Brown was appointed, he made history. He became the first African American man to serve in the West Virginia Senate. He was also only the second Black person to serve in the Senate, after Marie Redd. In 2022, he ran for re-election but did not win.

His Life and Work
Owens Brown lives in Wheeling, West Virginia. He is very active in his community. He has been the president of the West Virginia NAACP since 2015. The NAACP is a group that works for civil rights.
Before becoming a senator, Mr. Brown worked for almost 30 years. He was a specialist for the West Virginia Education Association. He also helped with human and civil rights issues there.
His Education
Owens Brown has studied at several colleges. He earned a master’s degree from West Virginia University. This degree was in agency counseling. He also has a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He received this from West Liberty University. Earlier, he earned an associate’s degree in engineering. This was from Belmont Technical College.
