Owens Brown is an American politician and activist. He served as a member of the West Virginia Senate from 2021 to 2022. He represented the 1st district.
Brown was chosen for the Senate in September 2021. He took over from William Ihlenfeld. Mr. Ihlenfeld left the Senate to become a U.S. Attorney. When Brown was appointed, he made history. He became the first African American man to serve in the West Virginia Senate. He was also the second Black person in the Senate, after Marie Redd.
In 2022, Owens Brown ran for re-election. He lost in the primary election. This is an election where parties choose their candidates.

Owens Brown lives in Wheeling, West Virginia. He is the president of the West Virginia NAACP. The NAACP is a group that works for civil rights. He has been the president since 2015.
Before joining the Senate, Brown worked for almost 30 years. He helped the West Virginia Education Association. This group supports teachers and schools. He also worked to protect human and civil rights.
Brown has several college degrees. He earned a master’s degree from West Virginia University. He also has a bachelor’s degree from West Liberty University. His associate’s degree is from Belmont Technical College.
