What is the PNC Center?

The PNC Center is a large building in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio. It has 27 floors. These floors are mainly used for offices. Many different companies have their workplaces inside. It is a busy spot in the city's business district.

A Look Back: When Was it Built?

This skyscraper was finished in 1979. It was the tallest building completed in Cincinnati during the 1970s. When it first opened, it was the main office for Central Trust Bank. Later, in 1988, a company called PNC bought Central Trust Bank. Because of this, PNC became the main tenant of this building. They also took over the historic PNC Tower, which was Central Trust's headquarters before this new building.

What Does the PNC Center Look Like?

The outside of the PNC Center shows what buildings often looked like in the 1970s. It has light-colored walls. You will see many rectangular windows with a slight tint. What makes it a bit special for its time are the "setbacks." These are parts of the building that step back, both from side to side and as it goes up. Unlike some older skyscrapers, it does not have a fancy top or "crown." The roof is flat, which was also common for buildings from that period. The building was designed by a famous group called Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
