PNC Plaza, once known as RBC Plaza, is the biggest and tallest skyscraper in Raleigh, North Carolina. It stands tall at 538 feet (164 m) (about 164 meters). This impressive building is located on a large piece of land and has lots of space.
It includes offices, shops, parking, and homes called condominiums. The building is found at the busy corner of Fayetteville, Martin, and Wilmington Streets. It used to be the main office for RBC Bank in the U.S. before PNC Financial Services bought it. This makes it the tallest building in North Carolina outside of Charlotte.

How PNC Plaza Was Built
Why Raleigh Got a New Skyscraper
For many years, cities wanted RBC Centura to move its main office. In 2005, the bank decided to move to downtown Raleigh. RBC wanted a very tall building to make Raleigh's skyline look even better.
However, the bank only needed a small part of the building for its offices. They needed space for about five floors.
A Partnership for a Taller Building
To make the building taller, Highwoods partnered with Dominion Partners. They decided to add 139 homes, called residential condos, on top of the office floors. This plan made the building 33 floors high. It became taller than any other office building in the area.
Homes in the Sky
All the homes in PNC Plaza were sold very quickly. This happened in August 2008, just a few months after sales began. The prices for these homes ranged from $230,000 to $800,000.
What's Inside PNC Plaza
Separate Spaces for Living and Working
PNC Plaza has different entrances for people who live there and people who work in the offices. Residents can enjoy a swimming pool on the rooftop. There is also a second parking garage across the street with over 1,000 parking spots.
Offices and Shops
The building has many floors dedicated to office space. A large part of this space is used by RBC Centura and a law firm called Poyner & Spruill. In 2009, another law firm, Williams Mullen, moved into three floors of the building.
The ground floor of PNC Plaza has shops and stores. There are also seven floors just for parking cars.
