Paddy McGuire (born as McQuire, 1884 – November 16, 1923) was an Irish actor and comedian. He was known for his funny, flexible face, which made him a great silent film comedian.
Paddy McGuire's Life and Career
Paddy McGuire was born in Ireland around 1884. He became a well-known comedian, especially in a type of comedy show called burlesque, which was popular at the time.
Paddy often appeared in films with the legendary silent movie star Charlie Chaplin. He was a regular supporting actor at the Essanay studio, where many of Chaplin's early films were made.
In 1916, Paddy joined the Vogue company. Here, he worked alongside another famous comedian, Ben Turpin, who had also worked at Essanay. At Vogue, Paddy starred in his own short comedy films. These films were often called "two-reelers" because of how long the film reels were. In these movies, his name was sometimes spelled "Paddy McQuire" and sometimes "Paddy McGuire."
Later, in 1917, Paddy moved to the Fox comedy team. He worked under the direction of Charley Chase, who would also become a very famous comedy star. By 1920, Paddy McGuire was making films with the Al Christie studio, continuing his career in silent comedies. He passed away on November 16, 1923, in Norwalk, California.
